[Project completed in 2013]
RECAA is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and to kick off the celebrations we are happy to present We Are Old! We Are Wonderful! – an entertainment. Come and see RECAA celebrate the positives, and some negatives, of growing old. We will sing, dance, set puppets performing, show the films as we laugh at ourselves and others, speaking up for the old.
This is the culmination of several months work as part of an Artists and Community Collaboration grant funded by the Canada Council of the Arts. Over the year RECAA members have worked with director and playwright Lib Spry, performer and community theatre worker Nadia Cicurel, musician and composer Chimwemwe Dave Millar, puppet and set creators Clea Minaker and Jesse Orr and documentary film-maker Sophie Guérin learning new skills, and developing old ones. This show to mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2013 is the result.
This project has included:
• Singing workshops
• Puppet making and performing workshops
• Acting workshops
• The development of old and new theatre forums – RECAA’s usual theatrical medium
• Outreach workshops in using theatre as a tool to other multicultural and seniors’ organizations.
2012-2013 has been an exciting, challenging and fun year.
